# Additional network protocols

#### **🔍 What Are Network Protocols?**

Think of **network protocols** as the rules of the internet party! 🥳 They help devices talk, manage themselves, and stay secure. They’re split into:

1. **Communication Protocols** 📡
2. **Management Protocols** 🛠️
3. **Security Protocols** 🔒

#### **🌐 Let’s Dive into Some Cool Protocols!**

**1. Network Address Translation (NAT)**

* **Imagine:** Your home as a clubhouse with secret rooms (private IPs).
* **Public IP:** The clubhouse's main address that the outside world sees.
* **NAT Magic:** Your router swaps private addresses with the public one, letting all your gadgets chat with the internet using just one address! 🪄
* **Where?** Layers 2 & 3 of the TCP/IP model.

**Private IP Ranges:**

* **10.x.x.x**
* **172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x**
* **192.168.x.x**

**Public IP Ranges:**\
(Almost everything else! Think big, unique addresses 🌍)

**2. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)**

* **Role:** The party planner! 🎉
* **What It Does:** Assigns unique IP addresses to each device and tells them where to find the DNS server and gateway.
* **Ports:**
  * **Server:** UDP 67
  * **Client:** UDP 68

**3. Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)**

* **Think of ARP as:** A phone book 📖 for your network.
* **Function:** Translates IP addresses to MAC addresses (the unique hardware IDs).
* **Port:** None! It works at Layer 2.

**Telnet**

* **Old School:** Connects to other computers using text commands.
* **Security:** **Nope!** All info is sent in clear text. 🚫
* **Port:** TCP 23

**SSH (Secure Shell)**
